Viper SRT Has Dealers Excited

The Dodge Viper is one of those cars everyone would like to put on a pedestal to show off. It’s quite the looker, one that really makes the head try to turn all the way around to follow as it speeds down the streets. Dealers want nothing more than to have one front and center for all to see to entice them in through the doors. There’s a problem with that, unfortunately, as not a lot of dealerships will be getting their hands on the super car. Of 2,300 US dealers, only 100 to 150 should expect to see the hot sports car come into the lot.

An article on the Detroit Free Press illustrates the mindset of dealership owners about the news that the Viper is finally coming. “It’s the image. I want to be able to say I have Viper,” says Chuck Eddy, owner of Bob and Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Ohio. It’s the way many feel about it, even with the knowledge that the pricey sports car isn’t going to sold in large quantities.

Dealers are starting to receive letters from Chrysler this week to let them know just how to get the Viper at their dealership. The first requirement “Is first of all, to have the fire, the passion. That’s the unofficial requirement – that you have a love affair with the cars and you just love fast cars, “ said Ralph Giles, CEO of the SRT brand.

To get a Viper, the dealer must pay for two agreements, totaling $25,000. The first agreement is for a special certification for the SRT line up. For doing this, the dealer will also get SRT signs, logos, and service training for SRT models. It also gives them a full day at the track with professional drivers for three members of the dealership’s staff. That’s what $5,000 gets the dealer, the other $20,000 is for training, service tools, and track time.

The Viper SRT will have a small amount made with only about 2,000 per year. Allocations of the vehicle will be determined mostly by the demographics of the area to see how much demand there is for exotic cars. Chrysler also wants to make sure that when someone comes to buy a Viper, that the person they talk to really knows what they are talking about.

Chrysler & Mopar Help Customers with New Services

Chrysler is taking a new approach to maintain a healthy relationship with its customer base. In order to do that, one of the first parts of their business that is getting a major overhaul is their customer-care services.

The company has already announced earlier this year that they will be expanding their weekend hours to include Sundays. That is an industry first. Weekday hours will also be getting more time with brand-specific customer-care telephone lines. Each of the call centers that the company has are right here in North America.

That’s not all, Chrysler is also asking the dealerships that are in their networks to give customers service hours on Saturdays and to have a Mopar Express Lane service for someone needing a quick fix with their vehicle.

That’s not all, on top of giving customer more hours and access to the means for making sure their vehicle is running safely and smoothly, Chrysler also announced Owner Connect. What the system is is a website where car owners can access details and information on their vehicle at any time as long as they have a web-enable device.

It seems that Chrysler and Mopar are keeping their pulse on what people are needing to keep them loyal. A good approach is by making sure that people thoroughly enjoy dealing with your company as a whole, and offering them more avenues and hours are certainly a good place to start. We here at Bayside Chrysler Jeep Dodge strive to make sure that everyone that walks into the dealership has the best possible experience. Find out for yourself by scheduling a test drive today. 75 Years of Mopar

The celebration of the Mopar 75th Anniversary had already started with the announcement of a new Chrysler 300. It’s an impossible goal these days to achieve. The current economic climate has made it incredibly difficult for companies, no matter how much legacy they have, to stay afloat. To be able to say that, 75 years after beginning, you’re still alive and kicking is worthy of a grand celebration. Mopar is one of the companies that can now say there’s a reason they have been around for 75 years.

It’s hard to believe the the company started as just a parts line and service arm of Chrysler Group back on August 31, 1937. Mopar has changed with the times and is a completely different beast in the time since its inception. One thing that hasn’t changed is the idea of providing quality expert service and quality parts to consumers.

Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, had a message about the anniversary, “The Mopar brand has a proud, 75-year heritage. The mission at Mopar today is to fully support all of our brands by providing every single one of our customers with exceptional after-sales experience. We will do this by continuing to offer cutting-edge technology, innovative products, authentic, quality-tested parts, and high-quality customer service.

The fact the company has been around for 75 years isn’t a mistake, it’s a reflection on the how well they have done to transition with the times. The Mopar of today has evolved into a world-wide brand. The name is in more than 120 different countries, they sell more than 500,000 parts and accessories. Mopar has more than 45 commercial offices and 50 parts distribution centers.

It’s very clear from looking at their growth than hitting the milestone of being around for 75 years was no mistake, and that in 25 years, we’ll be looking back at 100 years of Mopar. Woodward “Cruise” is Car Lover’s Dream

Today and tomorrow in Berkley, Michigan, millions of car enthusiasts will brave the last of the sweltering summer weather to be a part of the world’s largest one-day car festival, the Woodward Dream Cruise, and Mopar will be there right in the middle of the action.

This year’s “cruise” promises to be the biggest one yet with classic car parades, live music, games and activities for kids, and car shows all along Woodward Avenue. The event is evocative of 1950s culture with drive-in movie theaters and restaurants like Ted’s Drive Inn and Suzie Q’s, and it is family-friendly with no drinks stronger than a chocolate malt served at the cruise. Over 1.5 million people and 50,000 classic cars will participate in the cruise, and Mopar with the Chrysler Group will present the biggest display they’ve ever had in their history with the Woodward Dream Cruise.

Visitors to the Chrysler Group and Mopar display will get to see more than 75 vehicles including the Ram Raminator Monster Truck, the 2013 SRT Viper, and the 2013 Dodge Dart Rally Car. For those craving the classics, there will also be over a dozen Walter P. Chrysler Museum vehicles on display as well.

If you are making it out to the Woodward Dream Cruise, leave us a comment below and let us know! Looking over the line-up for this year, I can’t help but feel jealous, but maybe next year I will make the trek out to Michigan for the 2013 Woodward Dream Cruise.

Viper SRT Race Results

We reported on the 2013 SRT Viper GTS-R going to the races. Dodge wanted to see just how the Viper would handle itself. As Bill Riley, owner of Riley Motorsports and Riley Technologies, put it, “Our objective is to have a nice clean race. We need to get one under our belts.” The question is now, just how did the Viper perform out on the track?

According to the teams behind the racer, the mission was a success. Both Vipers made their way across the finish line with no problems. The performance of the car even showed improvement throughout the two-hour, 45-minute timed event. One of the Vipers even made it to the top-10.

Gary Johnson, Road Racing Manger of SRT Motorsports, saw a victory in bringing the Viper to the race. “Our first goal was to get through the race without any major problems. We accomplished that. In fact, we were making progress throughout the race. The cars were getting better. The race gives us an opportunity to know where the issues are and where we need to focus.”

Now word yet on when the Vipers are coming back to race. The team is heading back with all the information on how they did in the race and they plan on taking everything into account. They want to ensure that the next time the Viper goes zooming down the race track that it brings out the best it possibly can.

Navigation Systems In Cars Could Quadruple by 2019

I never understood the reason for a navigation system until moving out to New York.  After just spending a few hours driving around lost and weary in the middle of the city, there’s nothing I wouldn’t have given for a little screen telling me where I needed to go.  Now I see the point about why GPS systems in a car have been so increasingly popular.

The units have also grown in sales due to the fact that the technology is starting to drop in terms of pricing.  It’s becoming easier and easier to get a hold of any level of a navigational equipment for a decent price.  That’s caused more major makers into the field, from Microsoft to Apple.  It’s definitely starting to become a must-have in any car purchase.  To that end, Autoblog.com is reporting that a new study is showing car navigation systems are expecting to quadruple by 2019.

Places like China will be the ones to make the most gains, going from sales of 355,000 to 11.8 million by the time 2019 comes to pass.  The study doesn’t just stop with that prediction.  They see the traditional DVD-based tech being replaced by inexpensive in-car systems and with smart-phone based systems.   How the market deals with this will be interesting, seeing if makers like Garmin and TomTom can survive this.

You may already see the start of that with a brand new car release of this year.  The 2013 Dodge Dart will come with the option to have a Garmin navigation system built in.
