Chrysler Proves Their All-Wheel Drive is the Best

2013-chrysler-300--glacier-edition(4)-600-001When you brag about the capabilities of your vehicle, there comes the time to stand up or shut up. Chrysler has been telling folks for a long time about the quality of their all-wheel drive for some time. They’re tired of just telling people, though, and are ready to prove that they aren’t pulling any legs.

So how do you prove such a thing? By taking your cars to the one of the snowiest cities in the country. That city is located in the upper peninsula of Michigan and is named Houghton. Chrysler brought with them the 2013 Dodge Charger and the new Chrysler 300 Glacier edition to run the gauntlet.

Drivers made sure that both vehicles were put to the test. What they found was that the vehicles handled beautifully under the severe road conditions. Even at high speeds, the cars were able to slalom on an snow covered road. Here’s the video they put out to show how well the cars handled themselves:

Mopar Shares More Details on SEMA Show Vehicles

We took a look at the concepts last week that Mopar is bringing to the SEMA show in Las Vegas. Even more information has been coming out of what to expect from the auto part maker when the event goes live.

Mopar is celebrating their 75th anniversary and want to send the message that this is still only the beginning. The show does seem to be, for the company, to be proving something. Whether or not that is their intention, they are definitely bringing their A-game.

The most exciting car that will be debuting is the Viper SRT. Outfitted in a bright yellow exterior, the Mopar Viper SRT also comes equipped with a carbon-fiver cross beam which makes it lighter by 50 percent than the factory version. To complete the package, there’s also the “Track Pack” wheels that are in hyperblack and LED driving lights.

Also getting some primetime at the show will be their Dodge Charger Juiced. Named after the orange color it is sporting, the Charger will come equipped with plenty of Mopar parts to ensure top quality. The engine is a Viper V-10 which allows for 650 horsepower and comes with a Mopar intake and exhaust.

Next on the roster is the Chrysler 300 Luxury. Mopar has covered the car with a True Blue Pearl Coat along with a platinum mesh grille. Driver comfort is ensured by having Katzkin leather on the seats and even the shift handle. There’s even a bright pedal kit along with Chrysler-logo door sills to really make the driver feel like they are in the lap of luxury.

Finishing off the list is the Jeep Wrangler Sand Trooper. Sadly, it’s not Star Wars themed, but that doesn’t stop it from seeming space-aged in its technology. With a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 engine, portal axles on the front and back that give the Wrangler an extra 5 inches of lift, and 42-inch Super Swamper Bogger tires, it could definitely compete in a pod-race.

The SEMA show is building up to be an impressive display of just what Mopar is capable of. Perfect victory dance for a company in the 75th year of their life.

75 Years of Mopar

The celebration of the Mopar 75th Anniversary had already started with the announcement of a new Chrysler 300. It’s an impossible goal these days to achieve. The current economic climate has made it incredibly difficult for companies, no matter how much legacy they have, to stay afloat. To be able to say that, 75 years after beginning, you’re still alive and kicking is worthy of a grand celebration. Mopar is one of the companies that can now say there’s a reason they have been around for 75 years.

It’s hard to believe the the company started as just a parts line and service arm of Chrysler Group back on August 31, 1937. Mopar has changed with the times and is a completely different beast in the time since its inception. One thing that hasn’t changed is the idea of providing quality expert service and quality parts to consumers.

Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, had a message about the anniversary, “The Mopar brand has a proud, 75-year heritage. The mission at Mopar today is to fully support all of our brands by providing every single one of our customers with exceptional after-sales experience. We will do this by continuing to offer cutting-edge technology, innovative products, authentic, quality-tested parts, and high-quality customer service.

The fact the company has been around for 75 years isn’t a mistake, it’s a reflection on the how well they have done to transition with the times. The Mopar of today has evolved into a world-wide brand. The name is in more than 120 different countries, they sell more than 500,000 parts and accessories. Mopar has more than 45 commercial offices and 50 parts distribution centers.

It’s very clear from looking at their growth than hitting the milestone of being around for 75 years was no mistake, and that in 25 years, we’ll be looking back at 100 years of Mopar. Mopar’s 75th Anniversary Starts With New Chrysler 300

Tomorrow marks the first day of Mopar’s 75th Anniversary celebration. There shouldn’t be any surprise that on the eve of the big day that Mopar would make a major announcement regarding a vehicle getting the royal treatment.

According to The Detroit News, Mopar chooses a model every year to make over. The first year was in 2010, where they choose the Dodge Challenger. The next year, they decided on the Dodge Charger. Now, in 2012, the special vehicle that’s getting the green-light for an upgrade is none other than the very popular Chrysler 300.

The design work that Mopar is doing is something that is different than usual. In the past, the cars they have worked on were given a large blue stripe for Mopar. That is not the route being taken with the 300, there’s definitely something more subtle at work. As the Detroit News describes it, it’s like, “to create a monster but to put it in a tuxedo.”

The exterior of the Mopar 300 will be all-black with the blue Mopar stripe very thin along both sides of the car. The grill is a unique black chrome and the headlamp bezels are accented in black. The wheels are 20-inch forged-aluminum that are painted gloss-black with Mopar center caps. The wheels themselves are high-performance Goodyear F1 tires and the brakes are the same that are used on Dodge Charger police cars.

For the car buyer who is looking for the best, Mopar is bringing out the big guns for their 75th anniversary. It really seems they want to remind the consumers just why their company has lasted for 75 years and why it’s going to continue to be one of the biggest names in the auto world for more years to come.

Chrysler Begins Work on 8 and 9 Speed Transmissions

Chrysler is looking to start having more power underneath the hood. To this end, they have decided to have a 8 and 9 speed transmission in their cars by 2013. It’s quite the goal, but the company is making sure to lay the foundation to make it possible.

The recruiting program, according to Rushlane.com, is already underway for this endeavor. Chrysler has already started to put the new equipment needed into three of their plants in Kokomo, Indiana. The production of 8 speed transmission will start later in the year with the 9 speed transmission scheduled to begin the first quarter of 2013. Chrysler is bringing in German auto supplier ZF Group to co-developed the new transmissions.

“It replaces everything, literally. Everything that we are making today will get it,” says Brian Harlow, Vice President Powertrain of Chrysler. The 8 speed transmission upgrades are currently available in the Dodge Charger and the Chrysler 300. The plan is next to put them inside their SUV’s and trucks such as Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Challenger, the Jeep Wrangler, and Ram trucks. The new transmissions look to be 25% more fuel efficient than the current transmissions.
