Chrysler Looks to Change Car Repair

ID-1003906With 2013 we’re one step closer to the future. I feel the appropriate joke to make at the moment is to ask where my flying car is. One thing that is undergoing a major change in the coming year will be how your car gets serviced. Chrysler is leading the way in bringing a new way of having your car looked at.

Detroit News lays out just how much a difference you going to be seeing when you pull your car in to the service department. You’ll now be greeted by someone with an iPad in hand. They’ll plug the device into your vehicle and be able to see all the important information for it. Everything from how much air pressure is in your tires to seeing any recalls in effect for any parts currently on your car.

Chrysler is wanting to keep ahead of the competition by having the tech edge. “We hope it will increase the customer experience and increase the loyalty of our customers,” says Pietro Gorlier, president of Mopar. “We believe it is a real competitive advantage for our dealers.”

The new system will operate with a cloud system that the iPad connects to. Once the technician has the vehicle all hooked up, all the information linked to the car on the cloud will be at his instant access. It will lead to a much better customer experience and a more thorough diagnosis for any problems.

Chrysler is still getting everything to work the way they want it to. They want this technology in all their dealerships before the end of 2013. The march of progress is always fascinating, and in this case, is a welcome improvement for the consumer.

Uconnect up for Tech of the Year Award!

The new technology that Chrysler is placing in all of its upcoming models is really getting people excited. So much so that AOL Autos Technology of the Year Award has placed the Uconnect system as one of the 6 finalist.

The Uconnect has numerous features that have made it so popular with drivers. The ability to look at a monthly health report for your car is one. Another is being able to have your voice translated into text. It can even adjust the music you’re listening to so that you can hear the driving directions being relayed to you from the GPS or if someone is calling you on the phone in order to hear better.

The competition this wonderful new tech is going up against includes Audi, Cadillac, and Ford. Honda’s “LaneWatch” and Nissan’s tire pressure monitor and refiller are also wanting to take the win away from Chrysler.

Chrysler recognizes this as a big chance for the company to show just how important the new tech is. They are urging fans of Uconnect to go and vote for them.  The winner will be announced on January 9th at the Consumer Electronics Show.

Mopar Preps for SEMA Show

The end of the month brings some good treats to car-lovers. The SEMA show begins in Las Vegas on October 30th. Running through November 2nd, the show will be the place where Mopar plans to give a show of more than 20 specialized models. Everything from Jeep to Dodge and even Fiat will be getting that extra Mopar touch to look and performance.

Nitrobahn has more details on the unveilings that are being planed by the parts company. No official pictures as of yet, so far the only information given so far are teaser renders of five cars. The cars that will be displayed on full come the SEMA show are the Fiat 500, the Dodge Dart, the 2013 Ram 1500, and the Dodge Charger.

Also planned for the show is a golden Jeep Wrangler that was designed by Devan Ninov. This Mopar designed Jeep will have wide fenders, a Warn winch, and a push-bar in front.

The Dodge Dart looks to be the most exciting of the bunch. The body teased to be a white exterior along with what possibly looks like a functional hood scoop, a carbon fiber front splitter, and a tow hook. There’s a hint that this may just be the SRT version of the Dart due to a red chin spoiler under the bumper.

Keep your eyes peeled towards the end of the month to see more details when the SEMA show finally begins. Until then, check out our parts and service specials that we offer at Bayside Chrysler Jeep Dodge. Do some shopping on the Mopar E-Store available on our website. Make Sure Your Car is Ready for Winter

September seems to be the start of some nicer weather as fall may finally be upon us New Yorkers. For car owners, that means it’s time to start thinking ahead and making sure that their car is ready for the cooler weather that’s ahead. Mopar has a check-list to go down for the smart owner wanting to make sure they are ready for the winter. Here’s just a few of the important items they recommend on

First on the check-list is brakes. Any traveling for business or pleasure during the hot days and nights of summer can give your brake pads a heavy workout. This causes the thin layers to get removed. That means it’s a good time to make sure that that pads, shoes, rotors, drums, calipers, wheel cylinders, brake hardware, and parking break haven’t suffered any major wear and tear.

Next on the list is the car’s tires. Make sure to give them a long look-over and be on the look-out for uneven and irregular wear on the tread and the sidewall areas of the tires. If you see any excessive edge wear, center wear, and shoulder wear, this is an early indicator for any trouble that could be on other spots of the vehicle. Don’t forget that you check the air pressure to prevent premature wear and give yourself a better fuel economy. Make sure that your spare tire gets the same attention, just in case.

The next part of your car that needs evaluating is the battery. The summer doesn’t treat car batteries too well with the extreme heat we’ve been having. That leads to causing failure in the winter and the last thing any driver wants is to have a dead battery in the middle of a snow storm. Make sure the battery doesn’t have any corroded terminals and there’s no bulging and the case isn’t cracked. It may just be time to replace that battery.

The next piece of your car to pay attention to is one that doesn’t come instantly to people’s thoughts and that’s the wiper blades. It’s a nightmare to be driving through severe weather, such as heavy snowfall, and now have a good pair of wipers keeping your vision clear on the road. Perfect time for a reminder that Bayside Chrysler Jeep Dodge is currently having a “Buy One Get One Free” special on wiper blades.

Engine oil is very important important to bear in mind. It’s always something to be aware of and to make sure that you are up to date on your oil changes. Low or dirty fluids cause the engine to be potentially damaged under extreme conditions. In that the same vein, make sure that all the car’s fluids and lubricants are checked and changed properly. It’s definitely a good time to make sure your key fluids, antifreeze, power-steering, brake, transmission, and windshield washer fluids, are topped off and good.

Last on the check-list is your headlights and taillights. The days are shorter in the fall and winter and that means your lights will be seeing more use. Make sure that your inspected them all to ensure proper function and alignment.

Make sure that this fall weather doesn’t catch you unprepared. Contact us here at Bayside Chrysler Jeep Dodge and bring in your vehicle for a check up. Be sure to also see our service and parts specials to take advantage of the great deals that are being offered. Mopar EVTS Gives Parents of Teen Drivers a Peace of Mind

For parents of teen drivers, there are a mountain of worries, and the safety of their teen is never far from their mind. What if they are driving too fast? Are they really going over to a friend’s house? What if they forget to lock the doors and someone steals the car? What if they get in an accident? No device, gadget, or add-on can ever guarantee that teen drivers will stay safe on the road, but Mopar’s EVTS system can alleviate some of those worries and keep teens safer.

Mopar Electronic Vehicle Tracking System, or EVTS, is a GPS tracking system which allows the car owner to set speed and distance parameters, and when those parameters are exceeded, the owner receives a text message. For example, a parent can set up the system for their teen driver and set the speed parameter to the highest speed limit in their town. If the teen decides to speed, the parent will get a text message alert. Also, if a teen is grounded and banned from going to hang out with friends, the parent can set the parameters as the area covering their teen’s route from home to school and to their job if they have one. Once again, if the teen drives outside those parameters, the parent will receive a text message alert.

In addition to keeping tabs of their teen’s driving, parents can track down the car if it is stolen. Mopar has kept the process simple and user-friendly. If the car goes missing, the owner can log into their account and pinpoint the location of their car. From there, the proper authorities can use that information to recover the vehicle quickly.

To learn more about the Mopar EVTS and other car features available from Mopar, go to the Mopar eStore here and search part number 82212457 for the Mopar EVTS.
