Custom Mopar Jeep Wrangler to Benefit March of Dimes

A custom 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara, upgraded with Mopar parts, will be given away to a lucky winner in a special fundraising sweepstakes to benefit the March of Dimes.

The Wrangler was donated by a Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram dealership in suburban Chicago, and proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit an Illinois chapter of the charity. Some of the parts added for the custom upgrade include front and rear off-road bumpers, rock rails, steel body corner guards, interior accents using the March of Dimes’ signature color purple, and much more.

Back in February, the Mopar customized Jeep Wrangler was featured at the Chicago Auto Show, right after the sweepstakes opened to the public. The sweepstakes will officially close at 11:59:59 PM PT on May 1, 2014, so there is still over a week to get an entry in for the sweepstakes. Mopar Shows Off New Jeeps at Easter Jeep Safari

We recently wrote about the concepts that Jeep and Mopar are teaming up to bring to the Easter Jeep Safari. Since then, the event has gone underway and more information is available on the six models being presented. Turns out the concepts are the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Concept, the Jeep Wrangler Mopar Recon, Jeep Wrangler Stitch, Jeep Wrangler Sand Trooper II, Jeep Wrangler Flattop, and the Jeep Wrangler Slim.

Auto Media decided to focus on 3 of the concepts. The first one they looked at is the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. This new Jeep contains the much talked about and much desired EcoDiesel engine. The outside is clad in blood-orange paint and has 35-inch off-road Micky Thompson tires, along with custom fender flares and capped off with a modified SRT hood.

Next up is the Jeep Wrangler Mopar Recon. The template is the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Underneath the hood is a 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 crate engine, capable of 470 horsepower. The Wrangler Recon is built to be tough and shows that by having many features that make it capable to withstand some punishment. Mopar put a Warn winch, high-clearance flat fenders, and rock rails on the Jeep along with the Rubicon’s 10^th Anniversary hood on for good measure. All of this is clad in a slate gray paint-job.

Last is the Wrangler Stitch, also a mod of the Wrangler Rubicon. What Mopar did to this was put the Wrangler on a diet, shedding over 3,000 pounds to make it a similar weight to the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. That weight loss didn’t diminish the qualities though, so don’t fear. The list of goodies included is quite long and includes, 17-inch aluminum wheels, customer DynaTrac Pro Rock 44 axles with 4.88 gears.

Mopar Shares More Details on SEMA Show Vehicles

We took a look at the concepts last week that Mopar is bringing to the SEMA show in Las Vegas. Even more information has been coming out of what to expect from the auto part maker when the event goes live.

Mopar is celebrating their 75^th anniversary and want to send the message that this is still only the beginning. The show does seem to be, for the company, to be proving something. Whether or not that is their intention, they are definitely bringing their A-game.

The most exciting car that will be debuting is the Viper SRT. Outfitted in a bright yellow exterior, the Mopar Viper SRT also comes equipped with a carbon-fiver cross beam which makes it lighter by 50 percent than the factory version. To complete the package, there’s also the “Track Pack” wheels that are in hyperblack and LED driving lights.

Also getting some primetime at the show will be their Dodge Charger Juiced. Named after the orange color it is sporting, the Charger will come equipped with plenty of Mopar parts to ensure top quality. The engine is a Viper V-10 which allows for 650 horsepower and comes with a Mopar intake and exhaust.

Next on the roster is the Chrysler 300 Luxury. Mopar has covered the car with a True Blue Pearl Coat along with a platinum mesh grille. Driver comfort is ensured by having Katzkin leather on the seats and even the shift handle. There’s even a bright pedal kit along with Chrysler-logo door sills to really make the driver feel like they are in the lap of luxury.

Finishing off the list is the Jeep Wrangler Sand Trooper. Sadly, it’s not Star Wars themed, but that doesn’t stop it from seeming space-aged in its technology. With a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 engine, portal axles on the front and back that give the Wrangler an extra 5 inches of lift, and 42-inch Super Swamper Bogger tires, it could definitely compete in a pod-race.

The SEMA show is building up to be an impressive display of just what Mopar is capable of. Perfect victory dance for a company in the 75^th year of their life.

Mopar Preps for SEMA Show

The end of the month brings some good treats to car-lovers. The SEMA show begins in Las Vegas on October 30^th. Running through November 2^nd, the show will be the place where Mopar plans to give a show of more than 20 specialized models. Everything from Jeep to Dodge and even Fiat will be getting that extra Mopar touch to look and performance.

Nitrobahn has more details on the unveilings that are being planed by the parts company. No official pictures as of yet, so far the only information given so far are teaser renders of five cars. The cars that will be displayed on full come the SEMA show are the Fiat 500, the Dodge Dart, the 2013 Ram 1500, and the Dodge Charger.

Also planned for the show is a golden Jeep Wrangler that was designed by Devan Ninov. This Mopar designed Jeep will have wide fenders, a Warn winch, and a push-bar in front.

The Dodge Dart looks to be the most exciting of the bunch. The body teased to be a white exterior along with what possibly looks like a functional hood scoop, a carbon fiber front splitter, and a tow hook. There’s a hint that this may just be the SRT version of the Dart due to a red chin spoiler under the bumper.

Chrysler Begins Work on 8 and 9 Speed Transmissions

Chrysler is looking to start having more power underneath the hood. To this end, they have decided to have a 8 and 9 speed transmission in their cars by 2013. It’s quite the goal, but the company is making sure to lay the foundation to make it possible.

The recruiting program, according to Rushlane.com, is already underway for this endeavor. Chrysler has already started to put the new equipment needed into three of their plants in Kokomo, Indiana. The production of 8 speed transmission will start later in the year with the 9 speed transmission scheduled to begin the first quarter of 2013. Chrysler is bringing in German auto supplier ZF Group to co-developed the new transmissions.

“It replaces everything, literally. Everything that we are making today will get it,” says Brian Harlow, Vice President Powertrain of Chrysler. The 8 speed transmission upgrades are currently available in the Dodge Charger and the Chrysler 300. The plan is next to put them inside their SUV’s and trucks such as Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Challenger, the Jeep Wrangler, and Ram trucks. The new transmissions look to be 25% more fuel efficient than the current transmissions.
