Viper SRT Readies for Racing Debut

The news cycle for the auto industry this week has been wrapped up in the sales numbers of July. There’s also the fact that the Dodge Dart is getting that much closer to being fully released. One vehicle that also wants to make sure you pay attention is the new Dodge Viper SRT.

This weekend, at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the American Le Man Series, the Viper is going to make its highly anticipated return to the world. Two identical Vipers will be racing against the Aston Martin Vantage, BMW M3 GT, Corvette C6.R, Ferrari F458, Lotus Evora, and the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR.

“We’re thrilled to return to the world-class competition in the American Le Mans Series with our flagship American supercar,” said Ralph Giles, the president and CEO of the SRT Brand and Motorsports. “The new SRT Viper GTS-R represents a rebirth for us on the race track. Now the time has finally come to go head-to-head with the best sports car teams from around the world.”

The makers of the Viper are looking forward to the race this weekend. They plan on carefully studying the performance of the supercar to see just how active the cars will be for the rest of the ALMS schedule this year. They want to make sure the vehicle is ready for full time competition come next year.

To view the race, ABC will be broadcasting on Saturday at 2 p.m. EDT. You can also go to the DriveSRT Facebook Page to follow the action.
